Weekly discussion: the latest update — what would you do? [v2]

The trade-offs here are not obvious to me and I keep flip-flopping. There is a lot of conflicting advice online and most of it is from 2019. Not sure if this is the right place to ask, mods please remove if it is not.

I want to write something more comprehensive about this later but starting with a quick post to gather thoughts. Quick context: I am relatively new to this and trying to find my footing. Looking for honest feedback, not validation.
