Overrated long-term planning worth the hype? [v1]

Been thinking about this for a while and curious what the community thinks.

I want to write something more comprehensive about this later but starting with a quick post to gather thoughts. I tried three different approaches and none of them felt quite right.

Not sure if this is the right place to ask, mods please remove if it is not. The trade-offs here are not obvious to me and I keep flip-flopping.
