Underrated the original vs the remake on a tight budget [v3]

The trade-offs here are not obvious to me and I keep flip-flopping.

There is a lot of conflicting advice online and most of it is from 2019.

Quick context: I am relatively new to this and trying to find my footing. I want to write something more comprehensive about this later but starting with a quick post to gather thoughts. Posting this here because the relevant subreddit has gotten too noisy lately.
