I ran a 5K once in 2019. I still tell people I 'do running.' It was one time. I almost died.
The medal is on my wall. I look at it every day. It says 'Participant' which is a very kind way of saying 'you finished after the cleanup crew started.' I am a runner. This is my identity now.

I did a marathon. The walking kind, at a museum. 26.2 miles of art. Same medal, basically.
'I do running' is the perfect tense. Not present. Not past. Just a vague implication of ongoing activity. Beautiful.
I have a gym membership I have not used since 2021. I am technically a member. I am technically fit.
